There's been a pattern of intel leaks claiming to have high-level Russian sources followed by other intel leaks voicing concern that those sources are being exposed. It's fishy. Also fishy: this claim that Trump revealed secret intel to Russian visitors. It was already public.https://twitter.com/jimsciutto/status/1171050167413481472 …

Examples: WP reported in June 2017 of "sourcing deep inside the Russian government" -- so deep that it purportedly "captured Putin’s specific instructions" to launch a pro-Trump influence campaign. (NSA & other intel officials later questioned this claim). https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2017/world/national-security/obama-putin-election-hacking/?utm_term=.dcf2c7f85392 …pic.twitter.com/MryxE430zQ

NYT reported in 8/2018 of anonymous intel officials complaining that their "vital Kremlin informants have largely gone silent." 🤔If these Kremlin informants are so vital, why are US intel officials talking about them? https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/24/us/politics/cia-russia-midterm-elections.html …pic.twitter.com/unKLqCgouk

The alleged Kremlin mole close to Putin resurfaced in 5/2019, when NYT reported on intel fears of this source being exposed. Again, the irony is lost that it's the ones who are complaining who are the ones revealing this supposed source. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/24/us/politics/trump-barr-declassify-intelligence.html …pic.twitter.com/FWanvOCBvj

Re: the intel already being public, here's CNN itself reporting on it before Trump supposedly revealed it. The one thing Trump appears to have divulged was that the intel came from Israel. https://www.cnn.com/2017/03/31/politics/terrorist-laptop-bombs-may-evade-security/ …pic.twitter.com/x6JzWT0iij

So there's a pattern here of intel leaks in order to: create a false link between Trump-Russia; to reveal supposed high-level Russian sources that advance the Russiagate narrative & then falsely blame Trump for these sources' supposed vulnerability...

...the obvious question is: what is the actual agenda of the intel officials leaking false and/or misleading information, & why are some prominent journalists carrying their water, instead of asking this obvious question?

NYT now reporting that @jimsciutto's core claim -- that CIA extracted a Russian source in part due to worries about "Trump’s handling of intelligence -- is bunk. Current & former officials blame media leaks -- that came from the intel community itself. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/09/us/politics/cia-informant-russia.html …pic.twitter.com/JVz5XIZbob

Yet one more Russiagate "bombshell" turns out to be a dud. Between today's CNN one and @lawrence's recent claim about Russian oligarchs co-signing Trump's bank loans, there's at least a little progress: they're being exposed as fraudulent at a faster pace than before.

In yet one more twist, this supposed high-level Russian source who was able to capture Putin's orders -- & whose info formed basis of critical US intel claims about Russian interference -- has been reportedly living in the DC area under his own own name. 🤔https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/possible-ex-russian-spy-cia-living-washington-area-n1051741 …

The article also seems to suggest that the core claim of the Jan 2017 ICA, that Putin personally ordered an interference campaign on the 2016 US election to help Trump, is based almost exclusively on this single source that even the CIA doubted. Let's call him Curveball 2.0.
