In 2020, let's all look to lift up and promote someone else's work. With all of the unsolved problems in our field, there is room for everyone to contribute, and room enough for everyone to thrive and succeed. Here's to the breakthroughs of tomorrow—and to getting there together!

Postdoc with Emilio Ferrer at UC Davis on the synthesis of intra‐ and inter‐individual approaches to studying psychological processes. I strongly endorse Emilio, the Davis quantitative program, and the topic of interest! What an amazing opportunity! See:

Patients differed in the number & type of symptoms endorsed during recovery, as well as in the degree to which symptom variation was driven by temporal factors (i.e. variance explained). Consistent w/ prior work in my lab, networks differed significantly in density & structure.

Additionally, we examined the relative contribution of recovery trends (linear, quadratic, cubic) and cycles (12-hr & 24-hr) to the overall variability in symptom expression. Light and noise sensitivity were most strongly related to diurnal & ultradian variation (R2=48% & 38%).

Nonstationarity is one of the greatest challenges to implementing idiography in applied settings (e.g. precision med/psych). Our paper out today in Scientific Reports uses network models as a psychometric tool for partialing out sources of nonstationarity.

2020 resolution is to only accept review requests if I KNOW I can get to them in the next couple of days. Shout out to the AE's waiting on my last 4 from 2019. This shall be the year I conquer my constantly-late-with-reviews pathology!!

On avg., participants completed 82.21% (SD = 16.34%) of all EMA surveys. Compliance with EMA surveys was not significantly related to participant demographics, psychological diagnosis, personality characteristics, or most study characteristics (e.g., number of surveys per day).

The Journal for Person-Oriented Research has a special issue out today (h/t Evelien Snippe)—therapeutic change at the individual level. I want to highlight a paper from 4 of my grad students, led by Peter Soyster, examining EMA compliance and feasibility.

How long would it take me to train someone to know enough about my job/life to competently answer my email? That's the most efficient way to clear out my inbox, right?

Incredibly proud of the grad students in my lab who submitted 10 first-author manuscripts in 2019, with 6 currently published or in press! Props to , , and the not-on-Twitter Peter Soyster, with two pubs a piece. Looking forward to more exciting work in 2020!

Looks like APS 2020 is going to be chock full of forward-looking methods. And based on the presenters in question, I know there will be plenty of focus on producing *valid* and *actionable* models—a priority regardless of complexity or innovativeness. Looking forward to Chicago!
