On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio.

Music has always been a matter of Energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed Fuel. I am a serious consumer.

When scientists tell you that global warming due to CO2 emissions is really basic science that’s been known for a long time... we ain’t kidding around.

The hermeneutic dimension of credible signaling is understudied. For example, this guy in the grocery store carpark seems to believe he's signaling "Do not cross, I won't stop". But from my point of view he is saying "I value my BMW 328i less than you value that shopping cart".

It would be nice if at least one of the former deniers now eagerly jumping on board with climate action would fess up and say “ we were wrong”. A lot of people were hounded, trolled and had careers threatened simply because they accepted the science. For years.

    P. Cooper of addressed astronomers at the meeting today, continuing to gaslight the astronomy community. 3 big complaints: 1) They're continuing to launch maximally-pollutive satellites before fixing the known problem of the offensive brightness & number. (1/3)

These stars are just a little bit less massive than the Sun, and that makes all the difference.

The more educators rely on devices, the worse student outcomes- flipped classrooms maybe not so great after all:

If there’s a time and place given, you can usually get the specific flight details off of flightradar24.... people still won’t believe you.

This is so obvious that it shouldn’t even be an argument, but I’m glad someone is able to articulate the correct position so clearly!

Hard to argue with data. Much of the year to year variance is due to known climatic oscillations, solar cycles, and random volcanic ash inputs - and then there's that very clear and obvious warming trend over the past ~60 years.

Happy New Year! If you're an astrophysicist who's interested in working in a great place with great people in 2020 and beyond, there's still two weeks left to apply to join as a lecturer in physics!
