Made my flight - barely!! Thanks for the wrong airport taxi ride IAD <> DCA The inspiring chat was so worth the little hectic! Like regularization, good things can sometimes come from the chaos of temporarily losing focus - may we keep finding good luck.

What's Really Warming the World? Climate deniers blame natural factors; NASA data proves otherwise. This visualization is the best!

Very sad to lose Bruce, a fantastic neuroscientist, mentor and leading member of our community. Neuroscientist Bruce McEwen, who studied the impact of stress on the brain, has died - News

After reading approximately 30 applications over the past few days that explicitly requests a diversity statement. I got some notes on what to do and what not to do. The "DON'T" list is long but please bear with me. But first, lets define a diversity statement (1/x)

Success in grad school requires: -creativity to imagine things that don’t yet exist -curiosity to never stop asking questions -initiative to seek out information in unexpected places Yet, the 17 years of school that precede grad school almost select for the opposite of this.

A 16-year-old migrant was diagnosed with the flu and had a 103-degree fever while in Border Patrol care. Instead of taking him to a hospital, the Border Patrol moved the boy to a concrete cell. By the next morning, he had died.

"Perceptual illusions show us in a clear and unambiguous way that we don’t directly perceive the world around us. Perceptual experience is a simulation—a mental model—that doesn’t always correspond to the reality it aims to depict."

Remember that video about how block collisions can compute the digits of pi? A friend, Adam Brown, just showed that the math underlying this is actually identical to the math behind a very famous quantum search algorithm (Grover's): Genuinely crazy!

You know what makes America great (and Denmark, and France, and....)? Immigration! Ethnonationalist anti-immigration policies are self-destructive.

Taking care of our planet, is a matter of looking after our own home. We can no longer exploit the earth’s resources—the trees, water, air and minerals—with no care for the coming generations. I support young people’s protests at governments’ inaction over the climate crisis.

Thanks to Pres. Gabi Starr for bravely calling this out, at least on behalf of this scholar that is black.

Scientists: 1960-70s: Hey, this thing could be a problem. 1980s: Climate change IS coming. 1990s: Seriously, humans are changing the climate. 2000s: Why aren't you taking action? 2010s: HELLO? 2019 Op-ed: Why didn't you scientists warn us?
