when u use a tool like a hammer or knife long enough, it becomes a “part” of u with “discipline” one can become one with difficulty itself. the chopping of wood and carrying of water r no longer external chores to DO but extensions of ur life

if you don’t know how to swim, a lake becomes a prison gate. if u do know how to swim, it’s an alternate path. “freedom” is increased. there are lakes of “difficulty” surrounding everyone

this is very different than its near enemies of “i could do it if i tried” or “swimming is for losers, winners use boats” or pretending not to see the lake at all

it also does not mean jumping into every lake you come across yelling “look at me i can swim!!” and signing up for all the swimming marathons then the lake becomes like a magnet, exerting a pulling force that limits freedom just the same as a repulsing force
