ideas are like assets in that it's not merely about holding but WHEN you buy in and WHEN you sell out getting into an idea too early results in anxiety and a growing echo chamber to support ur diamond hands getting into it too late results in a net loss when actualizing it
an idea is bought in at a height however is often not worth the cost similar to artificially low inflation rates it creates the illusion that something is much easier than it actually ishttps://twitter.com/a_yawning_cat/status/1404518812800585728?s=20 …

secularly, it's like spending 100K capital on business for 10% profit margin but then over time that margin becomes negative. the business idea doesn't work without subsidies of some sort you realize too late you were buying at 2 dollars to sell at 1

spiritually it can be something like going to a monastery, taking lsd, and sitting in a cave for 10 years hoping for some Magical and Amazing to happen but then you just realize you just wasted 10 years

the idea itself is not "wrong" or "right" (defined as being able to further your goals) but has to also have the correct TIMINGhttps://twitter.com/a_yawning_cat/status/1408230902975533056 …

a symptom of not thinking for yourself is holding an idea for the sake of mutual stroking. "i'll say your idea is great if you say my idea is great". a kind of incest quite popular among cults and academia

because the ideas are never "sold" or actualized, the value can be inflated to imaginary heights (as long as everyone HODLs) e.g. a cult that is all love and friendship within their bubble can burst if some members realize the internally used love dollars can't buy anything

(bitcoin in this sense is a special kind of cult because the God worshipped doesn't rely on an actual individual/guru/jesus character but is "headless". an absent God that emerges through decentralized collaboration of individuals that are allowed to hate each other)

to dollar cost average into an idea is to constantly try it in different circumstances because you believe in the idea but know that only certain environment will allow it to take root. kind of like believing in the potential of a child

continuously buying into an idea to use as some kind of signal of rarified status or a token of allyship isn't the point the benefits should be clear just like the price appreciation of an asset should be clear (though perhaps very volatile)https://twitter.com/a_yawning_cat/status/1395039663413370882?s=20 …
