a thing has life in proportion to the degree that it is a source of reality to be "real" to a conscious observer it is not only necessary to exist but also to ARISE within that consciousness

urban environments do not form this "patina" because the scars of potholes and heroine needles are not the result of conscious tending but as byproducts of unconscious action in service of other actions the scars are buried under noise of other scars, but the pain remains
