that which is ignored is not "real". a reality shock is when something is ignored up until it cannot. like walking into a wall. or dying that which isn't ignored is "real" even if it's fake. like dogecoin. or a talking cat.

a living plant is more "real" than an artificial one because it actively requires watering and cannot be ignored it is not that it is plastic. dead things like buddha statues or a photo of a dead relative are "alive" in that we tend to them just as we do the living plant

modern office settings feel sterile bc they are so clean and glossy that they actively reject use living things form a "patina" with use. the fingerprints of an attending consciousness are embedded as part of its history. not as something to be wiped off with a microfiber cloth

urban environments do not form this "patina" because the scars of potholes and heroine needles are not the result of conscious tending but as byproducts of unconscious action in service of other actions the scars are buried under noise of other scars, but the pain remains
