in gabor mate's book, the cause of adhd was that attention was conditional but predictable. e.g. being pretty, or getting an A on a test would invoke attention from parentshttps://twitter.com/a_yawning_cat/status/1287272314615160832?s=20 …

the inability to maintain concentration outside of a flow state is due to the emptiness that is felt once the low hanging flow state experiences are masteredhttps://twitter.com/a_yawning_cat/status/1404670973383569409?s=20 …

flow experiences are low hanging b/c mastery has incremental returns. e.g. you probably can't tell the difference between a super good and a super super good and a super super super good tennis player unless u know their names

this may explain why at every "you are the greatest" ceremony the individual will first thank their parents being raised in a loving home provides years of experience finding the love in the mundane world of washing dishes, cleaning up poop, chopping wood, and carrying water

even for techniques that boil down to microdosing meth or some other substance, there may be longer term damage or other externalities like not being able to know what your "true passion" is. e.g. if you are good at everything equally, u feel like machine

how might one balance this against the sufferer's inattention to boundaries i.e., inappropriate/unhealthy attachment to the source of the attention surplus
-
it's difficult, the source has to differentiate, e.g. love from different sources one ingrained, attachment styles are difficult to change. also why puppy socialization in the first few months is so important
