a symptom of ADHD is the inability to separate the act of concentration from a flow state the activity has to be engrossing enough to trigger flow otherwise there is no concentration

the reason this is a result of attention DEFICIT is that the conscious mind that should be applying concentration is distracted looking to see who is watching. a time loop of "ma look at me!" that was never fulfilled and thus constantly repeats itself

this creates state of constant excessive self awareness. concentration copes include "numbing" behaviors that blunt the feeling of self through self-soothing repetitive motion such as the tapping of feet or fingers

concentration cannot be brought forth b/c concentration requires shutting out the external world it is similar to walking into a closet. for the adhd child, this is experienced as a sudden looming loneliness. something is quickly sought out as distraction to do sth else.

flow states bypass this fight or flight response just like being pushed into a pool or riding a roller coaster. the rapidity of physical (or mental) stimulation simply overwhelms the ability of the thinking mind to respond
