a story can be split into chapters. at the end of a chapter you can determine chapter-hero and chapter-villain but never story-hero or story-villain in an neverending story there are not "true" heroes or villains

"good" and "bad" are similar. they only make sense as a judgement if you are looking back on a past chapter any system of morality thus already believes itself to Know the Story and b/c of this will subconsciously lean towards authoritarian implementation of this truth
Show this thread -
although often rooted in noble intent and a unique perspective, it misses how its CURRENT actions are outside the story and thus outside the morality of the framework (such as the forceful implementation of the system itself!)
Show this thread -
e.g. if given my experience i confidently declare that "cats can murder rats" is moral b/c otherwise there will be lots of cat boredom i should also be aware that declaring this as a global moral system is a moral risk outside my ability to predict

the ability to know what to do only AFTER it has happened is a reflective ability. however it's useless in situations that demand reaction this is true in sports as well as walking away from a convo suddenly realizing sth smart to say
Show this thread -
trouble arises when the reflective skill masquerades of reactive skill. the coach misinterprets its higher level understanding with performative skill
Show this thread -
one example is w/ heavy protocolization of relationships like colleague-talk and sex the sensitivity over words like blacklist/whitelist or "may i have permission to hold your hand" is rooted in real trauma, brought forward by brave souls whose pov were largely ignored
Show this thread -
how the unique reflective worldview is used to prescribe a cure for a reactive problem lead to awkwardness it's like a coach constantly giving advice as the athlete is playing. it only leads to ineffectiveness and awkwardness that is mostly performative
Show this thread -
the intent is virtuous "hey i'm trying to help you" but it's completely oblivious to the reactive necessities of the moment. e.g. this causes a lot of arguments when couples teach each other how to drive

the "ego" as a thought construct can only think reflectively. it is always RIGHT because it is constructed at the termination of story. it DOES have the big picture overview it fundamentally mistakes "finger" for "moon" because its reality IS composed of models.
Show this thread -
but because it ignores how time cannot be stopped, every moment of ego thinking by necessity overlaps and destroys a moment of life this works great in a strategy game where there are moment to think. "life" CAN be paused in such situations
Show this thread -
however life itself cannot. the desire to always have a big picture overview actively creates a drag on the living of life. the framerate stutters and is inconsistent with the constant pauses and pseudo-terminations necessary to reinit ego
Show this thread -
by reducing terminations, the ego has less room. a flow state is one giant uninterrupted block of experience that feels "whole". it's like an essay vs a tweet.https://twitter.com/a_yawning_cat/status/1396362234125684742 …
Show this thread -
expression in words is a reflection of an already-happened state. speaking/thinking/writing necessarily create termination events. (unless it's some kind of "free association") e.g. trying to talk to someone deep in flow is annoying
Show this thread -
meditation is an exercise to purposely decrease terminations and prolong periods of experience (so it is ineffective when used instrumentally a means to an end. it's like if u study kungfu b/c u watched bruce lee beat ppl up u'll never accept that it is for peace only)
Show this thread -
that is... the point isn't to become a Really Good Meditator but to make the living of your Life your meditation so that you never have to actively think "hey, it's 9 o clock, time for my daily 1hr concentration and metta meditation"
