eric berne’s “strokes” are similar to economic transactions and follow the same law of equivalent exchange given this law though, how do individuals become excessively wealthy or excessively popular given limits on time and energy?

this is y the hierarchy is important. just like in a keith kohnstone impro setup, knowing which STATUS to play greatly smooths over the storytelling. if you are higher status, you have a storytelling advantage
Show this thread -
also, a 10% advantage at one level in the hierarchy doesn’t just add to the next level, it COMPOUNDS. at 10 levels, this is a x2.6 ish multiplier this is how you can get a CEO doing a typical days work but having outsized leveraged effect
Show this thread -
the CEOs local behavior is just the same everyday convos and meeting you having with your own colleague. the status adjusts slightly but mostly remain the same. being “good” means consistently coming out with a slight status advantage
Show this thread -
however just because a CEO is just “talking to people” it doesn’t mean it requires no skill. just like a high level improv actor, a bad actor stands out. the status stakes are also much much higher. every 10% change at the highest levels has massive cascading effects

so the way you increase your own leverage is to create a hierarchy of values in which you can consistently win. a “culture”, then build the company or social group around this culture by adding generals and lieutenants under you
Show this thread -
the more layers you create, the more leveraged your everyday actions because you cause can cause massive status cascades leaving the lower levels scrambling to find a new equilibrium or even looking for a new job/group
Show this thread -
the effort exerted in these tussles generates “free” energy created that can be redirected and transmuted into other forms like money for the company. this allows you asymmetric reward for the effort
Show this thread -
think about how u worked extra hard for some recognition. then compound that upwards multiple layers and you can get a sense for how much energy can be created out of nothing but status interactions
Show this thread -
the clueless (in the gervais sense) try to climb this ladder by contorting their values to the value hierarchy the losers conform but create a parallel value hierarchy for social relationships
Show this thread -
the sociopaths on the other hand set about using this compounding dynamic for themselves. either they subordinate enough colleagues into a lieutenant role to have real political power, or they demonstrate this ability enough that they are promoted into the upper ranks
Show this thread -
(in tech often times this is done not within the company but as ceo of another company looking to be acquihired)
Show this thread -
this is how “will to power” works just as the programming command “open” leverages decades of compressed computer science knowledge via an abstracted function that calls layers and layers of lower level functions, “will to power” utilizes layers and layers of hooman will
