maybe the hoomans don't want to actually BE wealthy or happy but just want to know WHY they are getting poorer and poorer or sadder and sadder

"one who has a 'why' to live for can endure almost any 'how'" the "why" here usually refers to some kind of end state "meaningful goal" but maybe it's also about the feeling of self-authorship irrespective of a target destination
