no amount of “babe let’s drop some ecstasy and have sex while joining in spiritual union” is going to make up for that sudden sensation of abandonment and distance as the Whole breaks into Parts

strong emotions are like stressors. a relationship can undergo tension just like a bridge during an earthquake if during such a period the other person feels “distant” and doesn’t seem to “be there” in times of great joy or great sadness, it is like a split bridge
