Money would be an OK metric of utility to society overall if, like early-game Monopoly, it were distributed a little more evenly. Empirically, it seems to settle into more of a log-normal distribution, like endgame Monopoly. This was crucial to my efforts to make some.
almost everything is though. academic influence, creative decision making, youtube/insta/tiktok influencers, etc... even trees take the lion’s share of nutrients and energy in the natural circle of life of a forest

Yes: I am not trying to moralize about it, my only point is that one doesn’t earn a living by serving society, any more than a species is guaranteed a niche as a direct consequence of providing ecosystem services.
