energy production has never been the "real" issue. there's plenty of energy just like there's plenty of "water" it's that there are two types of energy and water. resources that come from RESERVES and those that that would've been wasted b/c there is no way to collect

cows for example consume a lot of RAIN water. water that is part of the water cycle that they piss out anyway. they don't consume the actually scarce resources like freshwater reserves that don't replenishhttps://twitter.com/a_yawning_cat/status/1389595762888118278?s=20 …

the energy issue is the high cost of TRANSPORTING energy to where it's needed. you need to burn coal in local factories to keep the hoomans from freezing to death otherwise we'd run cables to iceland's volcanoes and have unlimited energy for all
Show this thread -
but the output of crypto mining basically has FREE transport because it's just INFORMATION this means that the mining can be moved to where energy is basically free or cheap (such as iceland's geothermals)

imagine all the energy it takes to keep all the finance hoomans in manhattan fed and housed and entertained and blah blah blah or all the energy it takes to keep the gold mining equipment continuously plowing into the earth to rip out its shiny goodies

all *that* can be moved into a bunch of computer and plonked next to cheap energy or at least somewhere the externalities of energy production can be better managed as crypto mining gets more profitable the development of this cheap energy also gets more and more >incentivized<

basically, crypto is like a company realizing all its knowledge workers can wfh so they no longer have to maintain offices and can just replace the local special snowflakes for southeast asian hard workers this reduces the company's carbon footprint
