when someone says sth like “don’t be that naive kid in the office doing naive things” it’s usually based on personal experience however there is a type of person who will get offended at this advice bc internally they will shout “don’t pretend like u’ve never been naive!”

the kneejerk anger response is not towards the content but the act of expressing the idea at all because it takes the high ground of offering advice which is felt as obnoxiousness at taking the moral high ground

this is a valid response. however it’s also a dangerous one because it basically creates a negative reaction to advice in ANY form and a reactive hatred to people who are just expressing what they see even if they DO see from a “higher” perspective (older, more experienced, etc)

this is y a lot of the advice needs to be mixed with “look, i’m not JUST preaching, here is my life experience as proof. i understand and empathize w where you are at”

there are also some viewpoints that can ONLY come from privilege. a lot of extremely talented artists and academics for example have parents who are extremely talented and taught them from a young age

the “i was a loser and now i’m not join my cohort so i can so you The Way” is limited in where you’ll end up. a 30 year old man in ALL the cohorts will NEVER become an 8 year old prodigy at ANYTHING

*this* i suspect why there is such hatred for individuals like peterson. he is interpreted as taking the moral high ground saying “it’s easy, just clean your room and don’t complain” for someone in real pain they understandably want to lash out at this preaching

and this becomes a problem because to hate peterson hates his entire body of work. once the decision to hate is made the brain will reject EVERYTHING he says even if it would’ve felt “right” if it was heard prior to the hate decision

the thing is... people ARE born to privilege and because of that they DO have real advantages in just overall being a better person

what makes this feel unfair is that it is also CORRELATED with race. so if u grow up in a family that doesn’t understand correlation it will feel like systemic oppression

even though many (but definitely not all) in positions of privilege are not blind and ignorant to their privilege. they literally try to help for free by giving advice (which is necessarily hamfisted bc they were born to privilege and don’t have everyone’s perspective)

it’s also not unreasonable for them to try to perpetuate their advantage. it was a gift from their parents after all. to try to equalize this kind of privilege attacks the very idea of making a better future for the children destroy this idea, and NOBODY has a future

from a religious pov, the stance of hatred for the moral high ground is dangerous because God stands at the highest of moralities. to hate the preacher logically leads to hating God the MOST

so while the stance of SKEPTICISM is good because it allows for more useful extraction from metaphorical stories and true integration with your own life (as well as protection against numerous “false gods”) the stance of ANGER will just lead u to hell

everyone, even the privileged have to choose between being happy to be born at all vs being unhappy that they were not born to MORE in that sense... being born to conditions where it is easier to say “this is Enough for me to be Happy” is the greatest privilege of all
