a lot of finance talk reminds me of jordan peterson. initially perceived as just an angry white guy, if u listen closely u can sense that they have done a lot of thinking and come to their own conclusions and that’s y they hold certain beliefs
so math more easily maintains an unassailable pedestal of respect precisely because it feels unattainable which is bc there are fewer attempts to bridge the gap

fields that DO attempt to bridge this gap create a feeling of inferiority in the other and thus suffers backlash for trying to be helpful

it’s like in a japanese anime when the scrappy kid goes against all the geniuses and wins. the crowd doesn’t believe in the kid so he has an attitude of “i’ll show you!! magic powers of grit and friendship!!”
Show this thread -
the crowd NEEDS the scrappy kid to lose because that would validate the idea of “genius”, an uncrossable gap vs feeling that they are just actually so far behind wasting their potential

if u’ve ever tried teaching someone sth that has this “classical” kind of sacredness like math or piano u can get a sense (esp in adult learners) that their brains shut down before even starting
Show this thread -
they don’t want the skill gap revealed and so they never improve. they cling onto the sacredness because they don’t want to approach it
Show this thread -
this kind of “respect” is actually disrespect. like those who holler under the banner of “Science” yet have never thought for themselves. they simply want association with what they perceive as power. they want to use the sacredness like a blackbox weapon over others

there is a parallel in religious domains. roughly divided into those who believe that God can be approached or is always already with you, vs those that God is far behind rituals, bishops, ornamentation, cathedrals, etc... and that you must prove “worthiness” first

almost every spiri-religi framework comes to some sort of “all is one” conclusion. and if Life itself is everything then there is nothing truly “Sacred” in that everything can be approached with no fear

even a giant oak tree is seen as no big deal once you understand how it got there. just day by day, starting from a seed. the power of natural exponential growth that utilizes the True Secret of Time and Patience

even if the tree is dropping seeds day by day, the worshipping dog doesn’t know what to do with them. it just keeps worshipping and guarding the tree. pulling up the saplings that are the growing trees as weeds
Show this thread -
it is the bird who hear the music of the tree and carries its seed to parts unknown with joy resonating in its heart this is when i POUNCE! when it is distracted and unaware in its euphoric reverie
