when a large portion of the population basically lives like they are in a developing poor country, they have no incentive to help maintain the status quo since the status quo IS about maintaining a quality of life differential. a differential that doesn’t exist for them.
they can support “reduce carbon footprint to that of a somalian villager!” because their own carbon footprint is similar
they are often right in that the existing quality of life differential is not sustainable for the whole planet AND also often naive and hypocritical in that they often live like kings relative to who they compare themselves too even if they are not “elite”
so taxation is just “do X instead of Y” e.g. build this public park instead of funneling your excess funds into your family equity bc what’s the point of being rich in a world with no parks!
and if the reply is “NO i will not support the park i will yolo into dogecoin” then ask urself. what is the attention that REALLY should be re-allocated? what money stream is stupid and SHOULD be taxed?
