it seems to be a trope that traditional asian families w only a daughter tend to implode. the mother cannot live vicariously through the conquests of the absent son. the father cannot make sense of his suffering without an heir
even the sons are affected as the daughters try their best to be sons and alleviate their parent’s suffering. this creates purely masculine forces competing in the world creating the weird situation of many single men & women actively seeking and actively failing.
