leadership is about not waiting for permission BUT only because you're in a position where there is no one to look to FOR permission if you're smack dab in the middle/bottom of a the crowd and just doing w/e you want, it's just arrogance or stupidity. like running a red light.

the reason gambling and risk taking is associated with leadership is because taking risk always involves an element of not waiting for permission. you just DO the thing and the rest is up to God

e.g. imagine aladdin taking jasmine on a magic carpet ride, just charging into the unknown and mcgyvering problems as they arise with no planning whatsoever problems seems to just move out of the way as if he were some kind of "chosen one" who can afford to always be winging it

risk taking however does not have to require "Actual" risk in that you don't need to YOLO into something with negative expected return like a lottery ticket it just requires the will and tenacity to stick with something through ups and downs

as i explore here, even a game with mathematically guaranteed positive return, you will encounter high volatility the ability to take risk is about not letting these ups and down affect you. the downs don't break you. the ups don't engorge your egohttps://twitter.com/a_yawning_cat/status/1383129373608275968 …

holy fuck this was a grind. after almost 300 flips i 10x my money with 60% coin flip. for this i just used my intuition but i would approximate it as "half kelly" but also keeping the bets low until the nest egg "stabilizes" pic.twitter.com/Z2uQQSFDPb

there's the obvious sexual parallel as well where the game can feel rigged and cruel e.g. not wanting someone to ask for permission but ALSO not wanting them to be wrong. it requires a massive amount of risk b/c being wrong is such a huge slap to the ego

it's a test in a way too though. is someone gambles their life savings on black, even though it's a kind of sexy risk taking. it's also stupid. very very stupid. someone who kelly maximizes their knowledge/wisdom/life-experience edge through consistent betting is "better"

they can afford to take risk because they can afford to have their ego slapped. they know how to play the game in a non-retarded desperate fashion

ego also is theoretically infinite unlike money which is measurable and can hit zero however acting as if ego is infinite is the equivalent of being thick-skinned to the point of obnoxiousness

every rapist for e.g. is thick skinned to the point where they no longer feel another's pain. (and ironically they got to this point b/c they were unwilling to be hurt themselves. the rejection of another doesn't hurt so much when they are dehoomanized)

this "infinite ego" trick is what sex predator guru's end up doing. a lot of spiritual dogma can be used to dissociate oneself from the ego and allow for infinite self-delusion. life becomes a "game". people become sheep to have your way with.

just like with money, the point is not to care ONLY about money (suffocating sterile world) or not care AT ALL about money (irresponsible ignorance of world) but to constantly have a pulse on on what "balance" is

for ego the point is to find the middle ground between One Super Ego that is too big to fail and "No Ego" which results in a kind of weasely self-delusion where you wave magic sparkles over things that don't make sense as you drown your world in bullshithttps://www.ribbonfarm.com/2014/02/20/the-cactus-and-the-weasel/ …

what is your "edge"? are you courageously pushing at it or cowardly hiding from it? do you believe in it enough to put your money/ego where your mouth is and go full or partial kelly on it? are you going to be able to handle the ups and the downs?

it is the most virtuous interpretation of what is meant by "if you can't handle me at my worst you don't deserve me at my best" the world will slap you harder than ten thousand cats to face the slaps unblinking with open heart this is the price of life
