the way out of a stupid game is not to create a new game (eventual corruption into new tyrrany) nor is it to stop playing all games (boredom/meaning crisis) it’s to not NEED specific game outcomes (including continued play)
e.g. if during board game night you have one person who is really really offended that everyone is playing secret hitler, and the guy secretly playing hitler is going to throw a tantrum and break things if he doesn’t win... then it’s a really shitty board game night
so everyone just sits in a circle staring at each other really awkwardly but not for long bc existential kicks in and the default game of sexual posturing and social stratification starts in the background
so then, in order to stave off the inevitable anna karenina crisis, person who has worked wayyy too long at big co HR suddenly has the bright idea “you know what’s a nice non offensive game we can play for 10,000 hours & can organize us hierarchically? MONOPOLY”
