Have you read Crime and Punishment? It gets at this precise question in kind of a roundabout way.

have it downloaded but I haven't read it yet. have read a summary of it tho I think this was a failed attempt at it more than anything else. lets kill a man to gain power. and then panic for getting caught valuable to know what *not* to do, but doesn't show how to build agency

Well, I bring it up because the main character has the same question you asked: literally, what do I have to do to be a world-changing person like Napoleon? Raskolnikov concludes that world-changing people transgress, and thus kills.

but for your central point, the easy answer is to tell the truth. Truth-telling in difficult circumstances is excruciating, but it transforms you totally, especially if it differs from a lie society has swallowed.

Hmm... i think that telling the truth is definitely a good start and v. important. Its smth raskonlikov failed at, and the price is not cheap But i dont think its enough...

I went through a phase where i was v open about my religious opinions. Made me feel much safer in the ties that survived that. Not as much coflict as one would think I didnt change *that* much. Same opinions as before, but more relaxed

I dont think i changed anyone else either. Only one person maybe, but thats it I think the truth is the *start* but it isnt the journey I think you *need* to be able to imagine and *build* a better alternative

Raskolnikov was able to see what was wrong with his life. But he was not able to build a better way out of it Talent is being able to hit a target others cant Genius is being able to hit a target others cant even see Being able to see reality TRUTHFULLY is smth a lot lack...

*Only* being able to see reality truthfully leads to cynicism Being able to see reality AND being able to imagine what *can be* is a whole nother ball game (Trying to figure this shit out. Feel like im talking in circles. so i'll stop now)

@a_fellow_of .@a_yawning_cat what do you guys think of this?2 replies 0 retweets 2 likes
i think have to separate out the will-to-reality from the greatness-in-eyes-of-others-ambition most try to use lure-of-greatness to try and force agency like working out/waking up early/cleaning room. but that’s backwards

instead by following the tailwind of personal agency you reach *your* greatness courageous eyes wide open you receive either a post of humility where you are constantly looking up. or the burden of responsibility for carving the future
