"the obstacle is the way" or "the obstacle is the fuel" feels hustle-porny-masochistic w/o realizing that it's not about finding a path through the mountains (b/c climbing the scariest mountain to get *through* the mountains seems dumb) but about oasis' chains through a desert

the "obstacle" is like a treat you give a dog to keep it from chewing and destroying everything out of sheer meaninglessness. it's intended to be "something to chew on for a long time" if the chew is too hard, the puppy might break its teeth. too soft, and it's just food

artificial obstacles are like treat filled frozen kongs in school. the difficulty can be tailored to the puppy/dog and over time it gets easier as it melts reality only gives bones. they can be too hard. they can splinter. they can be rotten.

each obstacle is like the next link in a lifeline. the point is not to reach a grand goal but to pull yourself forwards in time instead of being forcibly pushed the path traversed is still "fate" but you're now facing forwards instead of backwards
