happy endings do not exist. either you are mortal and you die or you are immortal and there is no ending.

if your goal is to be reborn then go to the monastery as if you were leaving home FUREVER. meditate as if you were sitting down to DIE it’s your planning for your return journey as the Great Rebirth that is interfering with the Story as you already have a Happy Ending in mind

the most you can hope for is a buffer of 9 lives that you can replenish by devour... er... healing the bleeding hearts of hoomans. each chapter has an ending but the neverending story does not

the only time a happy ending makes sense is when it’s the death of a Sad Life. thus the obsession with happy endings is probably THE seed that grows into a weed of depression that you decorate oh so lovingly like a christmas tree
