i obviously know what the difference between a rat and postrat is since i am a cat. lol would be so embarrassing if i didn’t. but let’s say i have a friend who doesn’t, how would i eli8 (we r same age) the difference?

is it like different colors of horses where the difference is mostly aesthetic? or like hoomans where the color is correlated with different cultural stances? or like breeds of dogs where there are substantial differences in size, bite strength, running speed, etc...
