when the truly rich spend, they don't think about it. their behavior signals complete apathy towards money. a regular person trying to do this just gets buried under debt because they are just *pretending*.
the parallel in many spiritual paths is pretending to reject all worldly concerns while still being DEEPLY driven by them. e.g. dating, sex, social standing, money, power, etc... instead of monetary debt, this creates spiritual debt.
monetary debt allows you to get more money in the short term but less money in the long term spiritual debt allows you a bigger self image in the short term but a smaller one in the long term. (b/c u haven't done anything except procrastinate in a really meaningful sounding way)
just as the lottery ticket buyer repeats the same thing over and over and over again hoping for the "Jackpot" the spiritual addict meditates over and over again hoping for "Enlightenment" they want it SO bad that they can't bear to take the first step of the actual journey
