there should be two phases to the deployment of excess wealth. first find something meaningful to do with money, then you’ll be motivated to keep/grow it. reversing the steps leads to a mostly meaningless life followed by “wtf do i do w all this money suicide”

in practice there should be *some* reversal as a hooman’s prime learning/earning years coincide with the most freedom/virility years.

some initial effort can create compounding gains that last you a lifetime, putting you far ahead of those who don’t start the initial compounding interest

the “nerd” who gets a head start at math compounds that knowledge and gains the benefit of growing up feeling smart and understanding/liking math for an ENTIRE childhood. that is huge compared to someone who spends all of school fermenting resentment

same goes for money and career related things. almost all growth is exponential. this is bad because your best days are always backloaded into the future. tomorrow never comes fast enough

exponential growth means that anytime you choose to stop growing/managing/being-productive you lose out on huge profits from compounding. this makes life one giant grind

tiger moms understand compounding and so start the education, piano, math, blah blah blah as early as possible. they correspondingly create attitudes that see life as an endless grind and higher suicide rates despite secular success

such a strategy min-maxes hierarchy-status/wealth at the cost of inner motivation and personal charisma. a factory of perfect builds.

in a country like the us where social status is not bound directly to hierarchy status(individuated charisma is important), this leads to a disorienting position that is disorientingly successful in society but also always outside looking in.

orthodox privilege amplifies the voice of those who just so happen to have the same values as the System while blinding them to the coercive pressures of the system http://www.paulgraham.com/orth.html

modern day society disproportionately rewards those to which managing money IS meaningful to them. they like the numbers and the sense of growth and productivity. (like a sim game)

just like everyone in software pretends to be interested in linear algebra for AI/ML lots of hoomans in regular society pretend to be interested in VC or other money related roles. “o wow, the numbers. they must be magical!!! senpai notice me!!”

this is why tiger parents spend so much effort contorting their own and their children’s value system to align with the System’s. the resulting life happiness is so much higher when u r aligned w/ whatever is exponentially compounding

they just miss the fact that the energy required for the contortion isn’t free. and that a contorted life that only cares about survival or personal benefit is very similar to a virus or cancer. it’s a mimetic mockery of life.
