the american sense of indidivudal independence is also a kind of victimhood/elitism. "i got to where i am without an authority figure giving me all the answers."

such a system however produces mostly malformed experiences. it's much easier to get something wrong than get something right. it's benefit is that those who DO get it right happen upon something Truly New.

but because only a minority (often who start off with a rigorous foundational education) can reach these points, they are asymmetrically rewarded in order to make up for the mistakes of others. there is no point in producing geniuses if you cannot distinguish them from fools.

"freedom" as such is a minority desire. most people do NOT want the freedom to have a Uniquely Retarded perspective on life just as most people do not want to cross the Desert of Death in order to find the Murder Dragon's Treasure. they KNOW they will just die.

they'd rather work together under a Glorious Leader who will arm them with knowledge, direction, and above all, meaning. and this becomes its own elitism and its own victimhood. "i have something you wouldn't understand."
