too much meritocracy can kill meritocracy

meritocracy is about who to look to. it points to the direction of merit. a tiered system produces more “champions”. regional champ, state champ, national champ, world champ

a global system on the other hand (made possible through technology) is more meritocratic in some ways, but destroys the ability for local regions to know who to look to.

the biggest loss however is probably loss of “heroic confidence” in local regions. everyone compares against the best in the world and squeeze into the cities, never to come back home

the ability to take a heroic attitude towards everyday tasks is necessary to undertake them without resentment. since they’re mostly “meaningless” tasks like chopping wood or carrying water

e.g. jordan peterson uses cleaning your room as a metaphor for a grand battle of order over chaos. you have to decide what should and shouldn’t be. what is the “proper place” of each thing. etc...

“there is only one source of the divine” can be interpreted as either one external source (global meritocracy) or one internal source (the discernment of the “I”)
