imo the most overlooked advantage of religion is that it allows you to love your family/parents even if they are not "successful".

a lot of the time, being born 'low status' and having 'high status' shoved in your face constantly creates unhealthy psychological habits that cascade into real issues like like resentment, jealousy, anxiety, neuroticism, aggression, etc...

in secular terms, having a framework of "this is the way things are and this is good" prevents the constant seeking/striving that resents everyone around you as Not Good Enough. a caste system can be this. the common cause of frustration is "X is not good enough" "the world is not good enough!" "you are not good enough!" "i am not good enough!" "god is not good enough!" etc...https://twitter.com/a_yawning_cat/status/1356156971817132033 …

religions (monotheistic ones?) try to solve this problem by affirming "you ARE good enough!!!" so to become atheist is to counter "obviously i am NOT". there is an element of self-hatred. (e.g. pretending to be someone else to join the cool kids is a common entry.)

parents/village/elders act as an interface or "world" between you and the Void. "God" is a final catch clause for void leaks. like insurance. ideally you use God as little as possible, that's respect, "those who help themselves" and so on.

to use it just because you CAN is disrespectful. it's like using pub/sub to a global object for all your state management because it's easy. or like using a handicap parking spot w/o being handicapped. (or thinking u are and never trying to get better)
