the basic terms of a relationship is that we agree to each sacrifice “I feel...” feelings for “We feel...” feelings.

these are probably the most brittle couples as well. each one is living in a narcissistic "MY relationship/family" dream. that is, there are TWO "We's" and each thinks the other is part of their own world.
when sth that makes the 2 worlds apparent happens like an affair or similar there is a feeling of betrayal. "my whole world fell apart" happens b/c the shared world was lost. instead each person created their own world and lived within their own delusion until reality crashed in
