each disillusionment (realization that it isn't the silver bullet that solves The Problem of Everything) was spearheaded by certain encounters. e.g. ribbonfarm for rationality, jed mckenna (imaginary character) for spirituality, and "doers" like nassim taleb for philosophy.
probably not right, but the point is you need to have a completed loop with ALL rock/paper/scissor/etc.. otherwise the game isn't a game. this loop of dissatisfaction is the 'life is suffering' idea that allows the Game to not be meaninglessly boring.

ignoring an aspect of reality just b/c it's negative is like saying "ok no one is allowed to use scissors anymore b/c cat claws are sharp." everyone ends up using paper extra hard b/c no idiot would use rock. then everyone screams whenever anything sharp appears in the world
