this is why the majority hates defectors. at the same time they’re saying “that idiot’s gonna fail” they fear being shown up. if everyone is doing the same thing, this type of comparison isn’t possible.https://twitter.com/pwyowell/status/1359177343353442308 …

note that this isn’t about “lockdowns not working” since they DO. it’s about if lockdowns can actually be enforced to an effective extent(combination of central control and cultural behavior) and if they are worth the cost.

There probably IS a non-zero mitigating factor but there is also potentially a much larger non-zero cost to the control measures that can also result in loss of life, loss of life quality, or irreparable damage to the future.

though experiment. if you had to give up all your money, sell your house, half your liver, and one kidney to allow your parents 1 more hour on life support to talk about love and life. would you do it?

most people do not have the necessary moral framework in place to make a decision here. they operate on a rule-based “do the good thing” system that doesn’t actually define good. what is “good” is what everyone else is doing.

what everyone else is doing is of utter importance to this methodology. hence the emphasis of enemies and who is on my side and the moral crusading

it’s actually very virtuous in some sense. moral crusaders REALLY want to know the right thing because they cannot operate virtuously without a solid sense of tribe.

a pure rule base deontological stance has one core weakness. the greater the circle of the In Group the larger the circumference of the edge cases like the though experiment above.

the solution of dealing w/ those edge cases by increasing the size of the circle DOES solve those problems but see... a bigger bunch of NEW problems at the new edge.

this leads to an addictive “growth at all costs” coping mechanism that is common in politics, personal relationships, economics, and even company goals where team growth is the hidden goal of all goals.https://www.spakhm.com/p/how-to-get-promoted …

large hierarchies of value and cults share an appetite for rule-based followers. they are like the concrete and steel with which skyscrapers can be built. their coping mechanism is perfectly suited for growth.

This is a commonly misunderstanding of how propaganda works. Propaganda acts as a CRUTCH for thinking, it doesn't REPLACE thinking. Instead of FILLING the hooman mind you only need disable the capacity for QUESTIONING.

Voice is by nature centralized while Exit is decentralized. Voice requires a loud consistent message that can be spread without distortion. The message IS the rule. The “Mission” IS the Life.

Exit is more loose. The individual actions of multiple non-cooperative selfish individuals creates an emergent effect where the “right” thing is done. an Invisible Paw.

i suspect Voice intrinsically breaks down past a certain crowd size. it can work, but only by dehoomanizing huge groups into homogenized “individuals” so that the crowd size is still “small” from the perspective of those up top. e.g. seeing 50 states instead of 300m ppl.
