roughly 50% of the Problem of Evil can be resolved with the understanding that bad thoughts doesn’t imply being a bad person. imagine all the insane roleplaying and author of Game of Throne has to think through

Having murder, rape, pillage, suicide, torture, etc... thoughts is *very* far from actually acting it out in reality. why are some people so afraid of these thoughts? b/c they are often “closeted”:

e.g. some anti-homosexuals are homosexuals themselves b/c they constantly fighting their internal urges, making sacrifices, making a *choice* they don’t realize that heterosexuals don’t have these urges and so don’t need to be on a crusade to constantly police thoughts

another 25% is resolving the "But what about Genocide, factory farms, X, Y, Z" argument. This boils down to "If I don't feel <negative feeling> how can things change?" 2 things here:

The first is that the surface negative feeling may just be a cover-up for the actual negative feeling. E.g. a kind of numbness and desensitization rather than a willingness to truly feel the exact "non-goodness" that you suspect is there.https://twitter.com/a_yawning_cat/status/1349421580552523776?s=20 …

         🐈 added,

         🐈 @a_yawning_cat
Watching a tragedy makes you cry. The same thing in reality would likely just make you numb. The LARP is in a way, MORE real than "reality". Taking things non-seriously allows you to take things seriously and enter the Heart of the moment.

The second is that acceptance of the situation is the first necessity of changing it. This requires drawing a distinction between something "Bad", which is relative, and something "Evil" which is defined as "Absolute Badness". Cats are bad to mice => Cats r evil?

If culture is defined as a specific domain under a specific "God", all evil arises from a different culture. Cats are cats, mice are mice. Aliens breathe cyanide and die from oxygen. Vice versa. There is no "Evil" Every culture uses a different "Garbage Dumb" for their shadow.

This is why the Holocaust is so emphasized in history books. There are similar mass murders in history but the Holocaust was the first in "Developed Civilized Non-Savage Scientific Method Western Countries" It was too close to be written off as "just an alien culture."

Mix all this together and you get: "Yeah you feel bad, but you should live more and read more so that you can REALLY feel bad. Once you understand the true depth of that tragedy can you understand what love is."https://twitter.com/a_yawning_cat/status/1304696075157082112?s=20 …

         🐈 added,

         🐈 @a_yawning_cat
"Loving someone hurts them is you don't know how to love" has a very very dark core that I don't think is fully understood at first glance.

An additional 12.5% percent of the problem is related to personal relationships. E.g. a colleague steals your work, cheats, etc.. "How can X kind of people be so morally BAD." Because there is a declaration of absolute badness, it's basically an accusation of Evil.

The first step is to accept that you are indeed, calling X or the entire group of X as Evil. This is hard because the specific crime often doesn't fit the accusation of EVIL. However, these everyday feelings are equal/greater than the feeling created by Big Events on the News.

This means that instead of solving the Big Problems of the world to resolve the question of evil you can start solving the everyday problems and do the same thing. E.g. ask why WON'T you humanize your colleague?

So the first 50/25/12.5 percent of the problem can be summarized as: Resolving self-hate. Resolving other-hate. Resolving mundane-hate.

Another 6.25% would be "serious hate". E.g. if you dislike people like Musk/Oil Barons. People who are obviously Doing Big Important Stuff but don't seem to be all that moral. This is the "Why doesn't my moral superiority give me greater worldly power!!!" complaint.

The resolution here obviously is that this attitude of expecting favors from "God" implies a corrupted morality. E.g. in spiritual circles often there is a desire or hope that some Magical State will give them Super Perspective or Godly Understanding.

Another 3.125% is "I can only be happy if X is gone" where X is something deeply personal like back pain, inability to talk to opposite sex, family conflict, etc... The resolution here is that these things are PART of you whether you accept them or not.

Similar to resolving other-hate or mind-hate the first step is acceptance, then letting go *only* after you understand why that pain is there.

I could go on with the remaining 1.5625% and so on but u get the gist.
