This is a case where “you are how you see thw world” comes in handy. Realizing that the therapist/SO/other is never really there, only your own model, is what avoids the externalizing/blame/punt to keeps one codependent.
That is, the point isn’t to masochistically go on a Lonely Journey but to realize that one was lonely all along and will be lonely forevermore. (Which ironically redefines the concept of loneliness and thus strips aways its suffering component.)
