The "Story" is the main unit of transmission for the hooman brain and as such has a number limitation as well as benefits.

One limitation is that stories must follow templates. It needs a hero, villain, climax, happy ending, etc.. this requires contortion, elimination, and sometimes even outright fabrication of information in order to make the story "whole"

Another is that a story is told only from one perspective with a clear moral compass of good and evil. To see the information from another perspective requires recreation of ANOTHER story with a different set of heroes/villains/etc...

This not only requires good story telling ability, but also the technical skill to express the idea in the medium (writing/comic/speech/etc..) as well as a true belief in a different set of heroes/villains.

That is... not only is diversity of values required but that diversity needs to be proficient and willing with regards to telling the story.

The benefit of a story is like the benefit of the shipping container. It is robust and easily transmissible. It can be part of the global economy of ideas with little friction. It is very scalable.

Neutral information, while it has the benefit of being able to be parsed from a variety of different perspectives, lacks the integrational capacity of a Story. Providing neutral information without embedding it in story is the equivalent of shouting into the void.

There are however Mega Stories, also known as Neverending Stories. These include the stories of "Innovation", "Immortality", "Science", "Math", etc... Like towers of babel, you can stack what appears to be neutral information on top of these never-finished super structures.

E.g. if you discover a new interesting math thing, the story of Math will integrate it. Perhaps it will be very useful sometime in the future. History is rife with many toy discoveries that ended up incredibly useful.

In addition to Mega Stories there are also Aspirational Mega Stories. Stories that TRY to achieve linearity or even super-linearity but end up being forced to to stop at some point because the structure falls apart and no longer makes sense. This is known as the "Lost Effect"

Families, Countries, and Genes suffer from the Lost Effect. At a certain size, they can no longer grow or accept newness without breaking down or mutating into a completely different form.

This "mutating into a different" form is important to note since it points at how stories can morph into other stories. Just like atoms are not technically lost despite their tribulations of destruction and re-integration, "story energy" also merely changes form.

this implies that all stories, including Mega Stories are under the domain of an even larger story. A Mega Mega Story if you will. Or a Story of Stories. Or a story of stories of stories of stories.... In some traditions, this is called God.

A "Story" then, just means "This is in some way connected to God and that's why you should listen."

This can simultaneously be used as criticism. "Don't just give me fucking random information, wtf am I supposed to do with it?" but also the rebuttal "ALL information is connected to God." and the rebuttal to that, a cat slap in the face.
