The trick w/ hierarchies is that Anger works across and downwards but not upwards. To move upwards you have to induce Fear.

Unless the hierarchy is based on physical confrontation, there is no connection between Anger/Fear. E.g. muscle man isn't going to bully his way upwards to become CEO unless it's as king of fight club.

Knowing this, instead of saying "Hey I should be Head of Tweeting b/c big market opportunity, notice me senpai!!", get people to realize that Tweeter is a big opportunity that Old Curmudgeon is missing out on.

Once there is Fear, then be like "Hey old guy, I've been known to be pretty good at Tweeting, I could help you with this if you'd like." Presto. Head of Tweeting.

Displaying anger upwards is a big no no in dog world. It's failure to respect rank by mistaking an alpha for a beta and leads to insta-castration. The only time it works if it is somehow connects to fear. E.g. u angry at boss and boss know 100 other ppl follow ur lead.

the fear technique isn't the most common way of moving up since it relies conditional situations. most conniving is done through supporting an alpha to be even more alpha and then you take that alpha's place. no fear needed if you're just stepping into a vacuum.

this is why it gets exponentially harder to move up at the highest levels. there's more competition for mutual advancement and less spots that open as the Big Dogs fear very little. It's a waiting game for disaster level situations that disrobe the emperor's clothes.

as you go higher up the hierarchy there is less fear. "Brave Leader" is a valid virtue and mirrored generally across all hierarchies of value. With dogs, this correlates to high skill, connections, a big bag of favors, and also a streak of stubbornness.
