the fear technique isn't the most common way of moving up since it relies conditional situations. most conniving is done through supporting an alpha to be even more alpha and then you take that alpha's place. no fear needed if you're just stepping into a vacuum.

this is why it gets exponentially harder to move up at the highest levels. there's more competition for mutual advancement and less spots that open as the Big Dogs fear very little. It's a waiting game for disaster level situations that disrobe the emperor's clothes.

as you go higher up the hierarchy there is less fear. "Brave Leader" is a valid virtue and mirrored generally across all hierarchies of value. With dogs, this correlates to high skill, connections, a big bag of favors, and also a streak of stubbornness.

There are also a few cats but b/c they deal with fear w/ Insanity they're difficult to supplant as they don't respond to mutual benefit pacts or fear. they are usually wearing dog masks though so knock off the mask "by accident" and they'll skedaddle.

When men wistfully reminisce for the "good ol days' what they're usually saying is that they miss when anger/fear had more of a direct connection. Where by simply being hyper-masculine one could climb hierarchies naturally.

the downside of course was that many women(and Lesser Men) ended up as anger dumpsters for all the emotions men couldn't handle and had to project into the world b/c they couldn't help themselves.
