Here's a tip if you ever find yourself awkwardly having to lead a prayer and have no idea what to say. A prayer, like giving thanks before dinner, is just an expansion on "Thank you all for being here."

E.g. you can thank Bob for being here despite his broken leg. Thank Alice for coming over despite her being in mourning for her husband's death and just wanting to be alone. Thank little Sally for following her Mom to be here even though she finds it boring. etc...

More specifically you're giving thanks for the present moment's existence! Most church prayers just revolve around the human aspects but you can go as deep as you want.https://twitter.com/a_yawning_cat/status/1342918821426786305 …

The greater your understanding of the whole the smaller "you" become. This grants the perspective to squash or forgive your problems like a tiny bug.Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 0 likesShow this thread -
But since a group prayer is a social event it's best to keep the social group in mind. If you start breaking out your theory of Genesis or start talking about how your grandparents first had sex and conceived you then well... that's TMI.

Remember, no one can actually answer "Why *gestures at the universe* this?" Just appreciate it to the best of your ability and let people know your thoughts even if it's "I'm trying real hard, but I just can't."
