Bread and circuses refers to distracting the populace by giving them bread (food; what they need) & circuses (entertainment; what they want) It implies corrupt rulers gaining public approval by distractions But why not consider it sort of noble?https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bread_and_circuses …

The ruler literally gave the people what they need and want. The problem (if there is any) is not with the ruler. The problem is with the people Ive been plenty cynical & disregarded *any* good thing a politician or authority figure did as bread and circuses

Bread/Circus IMO is a severing of values that serves the goal of scalability. Bread sustains, circus gives meaning. VS 'whole' food that simultaneously sustains *and* is worth living for. (e.g. Grandma's Stew, that which passes on the torch of love)

There's this chunky condiment that's very popular but also hand-filled b/c to scale it w/ a machine would require liquidating everything into sludge to fit through the pipes. It's *still* made at scale though but only b/c of cheap labor in China. Bread/Circus r liquidated forms.
