The most symptomatic sign of a lost Golden Compass is arrogance and defensiveness. Instead of the spinning around necessary when using the compass you instantly point: "Of course I have my compass, *that* direction is north."

It also puts too much unrealistic expectations on relationships. "I want you to be my GOD(DESS)." "Er sorry, I'm busy, I'm looking for my own GOD(DESS)."

It's difficult to get better at being quiet. Often times the path to a quieter mind lies beyond the angry friends and lovers yelling at you to listen more and your rebukes that you already do. Who would know that quiet lies only beyond cacophony?

To be in possession of a Golden Compass means to stand at the nexus of all hierarchy of values, subordinating them in perfect rendition of you. You demand the accuracy of their judgement because you hold no illusions of being perfect.
