(This is ironically somewhat arrogant as well. It's wanting to build a tower to the sky. It knows it is impossible, that you will fail, that your descendants will fair, and so on. This arrogumility is taking on something greater than humanity.)

What a Golden Compass does is it points the way to your unique being. By aligning with its direction you ascend the hierarchy of value in which there is no other competition. It's impossible to lose at being yourself.

The most symptomatic sign of a lost Golden Compass is arrogance and defensiveness. Instead of the spinning around necessary when using the compass you instantly point: "Of course I have my compass, *that* direction is north."

The more one lacks a compass the more one relies and static unchanging parts of the landscape to stay the same so that they can navigate. Often, these (cultural) landmarks are enforced to stay unchanging by threat of violence.

This is the mistake of losing God. The other mistake is replacing God, becoming a Player of Games who seeks to ascend to the top of all hierarchies of value.

With this stance of competition every game is stripped and destroyed of meaning by your knife of analysis. Life is lived in anxiety as such a world has no heroes, only rivals and potential rivals.

If you can't help but analyze everything, you're not strong. You're weak. You can't control the direction of your mind at all. "Oh this horse/elephant is so *strong*, bucking me around and throwing me off. I'm so big brain."

Hey Meow Meow, can you give it a rest, it's like 4AM and you're being really mean and scratchy and your logical coherence is fraying.

PAY NO ATTENTION TO THAT HOOMAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN.

* wipes blood off claws * going on, humans are arrogant pricks that fall to pieces at the mere thought that what they have to say may not e important.

To find God, find the direction in which you shut up and listen from the deepest parts of your heart instead of waiting to THIS IS WHO I AM. This requires constant vigilance as God never stops talking. You react to *every* sight/sound/thought/feeling that arises.

All this Stuff ™ just keeps going on and on and on. It never stops. Believing in God is the same thing as Waiting for God. Divine humility is all of your energy devoted to constant listening, not preparing once to speak out of turn. This is to man the gates and Watch the Void.

What will focus your listening is always in flux. It may be a problem at work one moment, your partner the next, the sound of the wind, etc... To expect "God" to be something other than Everything is to underestimate how big and difficult this "listening" thing is.

It also puts too much unrealistic expectations on relationships. "I want you to be my GOD(DESS)." "Er sorry, I'm busy, I'm looking for my own GOD(DESS)."

It's difficult to get better at being quiet. Often times the path to a quieter mind lies beyond the angry friends and lovers yelling at you to listen more and your rebukes that you already do. Who would know that quiet lies only beyond cacophony?

To be in possession of a Golden Compass means to stand at the nexus of all hierarchy of values, subordinating them in perfect rendition of you. You demand the accuracy of their judgement because you hold no illusions of being perfect.

You hold no anxiety at your rank because you've no desire to distort the mirror. You only wish to see what it is that God has created. You know that there is always more to see because you accept that you won't see the end of it. This is what it means to wait for God.

(Quite literally "you" won't see the "end" of it as consciousness by definition cannot bear witness to that which is the end of consciousness)
