After my wife went vegan, I waited for years before I joined her. I knew I eventually would, but I made all kinds of excuses. None of them were my True Objection.

I mean, empathizing with my pets is one of the things that made me switch eventually. But I don't think it's really my argument I'm just pretty sure that at least mammals, and at least some birds, match my definition for "person" closely enough that I'd prefer they didn't suffer

I'm really glad I'm not an obligate carnivore, it would make for some uncomfortable cognitive dissonance! Needing to feed meat to my cat is already causing me enough discomfort that she'll probably be our last.

I am vegan for medical reasons but I have strong moral objections to factory farming. Primarily because of environmental impact but mildly because of the cruelty of the conditions of large livestock farms (especially chickens). I've seen them, lived near them, and they bother me.

I personally believe factory farms are inherantly bad, and supporting them by eating their products is bad, but eating meat is not bad. It comes down to a messed up food system globally but in the US especially. I ate meat when I was in France and Germany!
