Have been thinking about this too. (from playing Hades...) What I visualized was the boulder falling down as "good" but the whole system as bad like waiting 6 hours in line for a 10 second ride and repeating for *forever* is a slavish life.

His punishment for trying to cheat death is to never have access to the peace of death. He gains immortality and the infinite cycle of chasing goal after goal after goal. It's an ironic punishment b/c it gives him what he desires.
