unsure if this is an asian-american thing but realized recently that I tend to feel guilt around being “too” happy/lucky, as if it’s more likely to be taken away if I’m openly happy about it

Might be that immigrant parents are correlated w/ ambition & desperation. Running away from sth 'bad' to something 'good'. There's also an academic bias as top students could get visa more easily leading to ABC's R Smart stereotype. (and intelligence corrs w/ difficult happiness)

Annecdotally, most immigrants I know of are concerned about their children losing touch with their culture and religion, and being "corrupted" with the western culture. Despite ironically moving their for better opportunities
