      What is lost is the ability to distinguish Shadow and Darkness. Similar in appearance, they are actually opposites. Shadow needs light. Darkness needs the absence of light.

      Which I think is the point JP tries to make about facing difficulty. (marriage is the most dominant cultural/political issue. How 'easy' should certain 'chains' be to break?) Social media for e.g. makes ghosting very easy so shadow never needs to be dealt with.
