When reading a fiction story, the passage of time is slowed down, like in a car crash. What happens in mere moments in reality expands into multiple seconds as we scan words and sentences and parse them.

Maybe that’s why they’re more interesting than reality at times. Reality is like the summary we skim over when our consciousness does not have the capacity to pierce into the moment and expand it.
