Is taking full, deep breaths supposed to take a lot of effort? Is it supposed to feel somewhat exhausting? Is it supposed to be difficult? If I wanted to become able to do this with ease: what should I do? What practices or techniques should I use?

I feel like I'm breathing more in my belly. No mental or spiritual benefits yet that I can not. Though only have been doing it for a week. Will see... Makes me feel "fat" honestly. I think I've subconsciously been sucking in my gut my whole life. Probable source of tension.
