Taking some time off work to organize the house these last few days. Feels like a lot has changed. I wonder if the feeling of "growth" is tied to pace of environmental change. The "environment" of your consciousness being influenced by many things.

Physical environment for examples influences a large amount of thoughts around navigation and looking for things. If doing something simple like making coffee now requires new behaviors b/c things are in different spots it "feels" new.

What I suspect minimalism does is that it shifts the physical environment towards the background to make room for more thoughts that aren't bound to physical triggers. E.g. you can notice more how your mind changes and you "feel" more change.

Previously that internal change would have been drowned out in all the physical stuff that was static but still demanded tons of attention due to having to sift through things, ignore this, find that, etc...

For someone who spends all their time at the computer on social media, the effect can be the same as having a minimalistic house. The pace of change is dictated by how the online relationships evolve.

If OODA loops are like sine waves, reducing the amplitude of some waves allow the smaller waves to take up more space in consciousness. The smaller waves can be more sophisticated but aren't as "loud".

Feeling like your stuck doing the same thing everyday at work in your house in quarantine is like having a giant regular sine wave drowning out the subtlety of everything else. Everything starts to feel the same despite there technically being infinite detail and infinite variety

When the environment is in constant flux like while travelling time stretches out even more. There can be anxiety because of all the stuff that's happening but it can also feel like an exhilarating adventure.

So... maybe the point of minimalism isn't to be "boring". It's to stop shouting over the beautiful things in life with all this Stuff. Less is more makes sense only when you value diversity over amplitude.
